I am a video artist and educator based in NYC. I produce single-channel videos and multichannel installations for public space. I utilize media, pedagogy, and socially engaged art practices to create installations that bring strangers together around critical social and cultural issues. I am particularly interested in issues of globalization, migration, and human rights, and how media and technology affect our notions of difference and experiences of encounter.
This vlog is an extension of my primary video site, RilkeanHeart.org. It is a space where I will be posting shorter video pieces, works in progress, writings, and other assorted items.
From August 2009-June 2010, I lived in Seoul, Korea conducting research as a Fulbright Fellow for a multimedia installation piece exploring narratives of nation building, physical and psychological border crossings, and the embodiment of haan/Han through the traditional performing arts. I also did some research on contemporary Korean video art and the construction of collective history. I documented some of that experience here.
